FMCSA in December 2023 submitted a draft notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review prior to publication in the Federal Register. The draft NPRM is aimed at ensuring the safe introduction of automated driving systems (ADS)-equipped commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) by addressing CMV operations, inspection, repair, and maintenance. In addition to various listening sessions and other efforts to solicit input, FMCSA issued an advance NPRM (ANPRM) on the topic in May 2019 and a supplemental NPRM (SNPRM) in January 2023.
